Summer series / Street-Park
The summer series are held during summer (funny that!) when the North Queensland sun burns at its fiercest. A typical event is held in the streets in the afternoon at about 5pm. There are 20 controls and the long course involves collecting any 18 controls, and short is the collection of 8. This setup involves not only route choice, but also choice of controls to collect.
Wine and Cheese
Wine and cheese is a social event, with a course with a twist. In 2000, Russells' dog got hold of the map and ripped it into peices.
Russell glued it together again, but got the order a bit mixed up. So we were running around Palmetum with a jigsaw of a map.
In 1999, he stuffed it up by photocopying in mirror mode. Who knows what the next event will hold?
Long-O
An event in the bush, where you do one course, come back get the map for the next course with the timer still running and so on.
Cross country
A standard bush event. Red long and short, orange and green usually offered. Includes the new Norwegian revenge event.
Relay
I don't know what this is yet, I'll let you know when I go to one.
Night event
Don't forget your torch! Is held at the James Cook University Douglas campus and in the surrounding bush. Lots of fun, bumps in the dark.
Metrogaine
Similar to the Summer Series but on a bigger scale. Controls are scattered throughout the mapped portion of Townsville, and are allocated points values according to their difficulty.
May be run as a team or individuals, and controls may be collected in any order. The golden rule is: take your time, enjoy yourself but don't get back late!!!
Points are deducted at a frightening rate for every minute you exceed the nominated duration.
