FRUSTRATING to find the cause of this flat
spot by a BMW Dealer......
It was an easy fix from INTER-JECT
with the INTER-JECT LB-291/2F system.
A BMW Dealer in Munich sold a BMW 850i V12 to a well known heart surgeon. This car was mend to be a wedding anniversary present for his wife. This car was only a few months old and was driven mainly in the city and close surrounding areas it developed an unpleasant driving characteristic on take off only. First it was a small flat spot but gradually worsened.
The car went back
to the Dealer to attend to the problem. After picking up the car, the flat
spot was still there, so it went back to the dealer to have another go.
The $85,000.00 equipment which was being used, but still the operators
were not able to locate and to address the problem.
This I really feel, after assessing this equipment
it is used as an monopoly against BMW Dealers in Germany to keep their
Dealership current or, get out.
(Most of them went out anyway as this equipment
was only a personal 486 Computer run by a program with interface reflecting
not real and true values from the engine, but values which are governed
by the program written for that machine to drive the interface itself
to transform data from the engine.)
The conventional and very costly method was again applied:-
Once again, like wild Bulls in a china shop ripping parts out, timing belt, ignition modules, switches and sensors, injectors and computers, air flow meters, try this one or try that one, over many weeks and months, spending the customer's else's money with no satisfactory resolution of the problem at all. The car went in and out the Dealer ship faster then ever before, because the problem became so bad that the Surgeons wife refused to drive the vehicle until it was fixed properly or replace the vehicle. A patient of the heart surgeon pointed out to an advertisement from INTER-JECT in an ADAC Magazine, which is equivalent to the NRMA Magazine. The advertisement said:-, that only INTER-JECT has the solution to fix that problem with guaranteed results and customer satisfaction.
A phone call to INTER-JECT Germany brought the Bavarian INTER-JECT team to the BMW Dealer in Munich. The promise from INTER-JECT Germany was a free fix of the problem on the vehicle under the condition that Members from the ZDK department (equally to the Motor Vehicle Repairers Council in Australia) and the News Media, TV etc. were to be present at the Dealership to witness the sure fix on that BMW 850i.
At the scheduled meeting, the Surgeon said " I brought some one from the Government as well to see first hand how you people can be so positive to fix a problem before you have even diagnosed it makes me really puzzled. One thing I will say, you people will not go empty handed away from this. That I can assure you!"
It started with the initial tests and data storage
by the BMW's $85,000.00 Computer saying
"No problems found" which
was what was recorded by the graph's data sheets, which were printed to
be held to checked for later graph comparisons. After that the INTER-JECT
Team went into action.
The test procedures went off the normal way, until huge amount of colour indicated water was extracted out of the fuel system via the equipment into a bottle and later into a metal bin with other impurities in the fuel causing the flash point change of the fuel. Every one was excited about thinking that this maybe the cause. A calibration check on the split fuel injection system revealed, that the left bank of cylinders in the engine intermittently lagged up to 15-20 % on idle which had to be reset to balance with the right bank of cylinders. This was the positive sign for the INTER-JECT Team that this also is the cause of the flat spot. As it was predicted it was then fixed in less than 30 Minutes.
The Surgeon then took the car for a test drive.
It took quit some time before the car returned from this long run. The
thing was the Surgeon didn't park the car in the repair bay, instead outside
in the car park in front of the workshop which was a good sign to the INTER-JECT
team of their success. What followed after was that the Surgeon said, this
humble $ 4000.00 Machine is a bench mark in comparison to your equipment,
it fixed my long existing problem in less than 30 Minutes.
The INTER-JECT team sold a full LB-292/2F system to the BMW dealer, and following on from this All Police Workshops were set up the following week with the equipment and after that, many other Government departments followed suit. The Person who came with the Surgeon, from the Government nominated INTER-JECT for THE GOLD MEDAL Internationally accepted "BUNDES AWARD" , Inter-Ject won the award which was presented at the Munich International Inventors & Trade Exhibition. The Gold Medal presentation took place on the 15th. March 1996

THE CAUSE:
That
the left bank of cylinders in the engine intermittently lagged up to 15-20
% on idle which had to be reset to balance with the right bank of cylinders
was as follow.
Crankcase pressure build up due to normal engine wear had in this case an easy way to escape via the minimal oversized valve guides on the intake stroke. This amount of un-metered intake was good enough to alter the Air flow meter wiper position differently to the one of the right bank of cylinders.
It doesn’t take much to figure out now, why software driven analysers or testers can not pick up something like that.
