The dojo training area is covered with traditional Tatami - additional safety mats are provided for practice throwing and novice students.

The Jishin Judo Club was first formed in 1988 by Shihan Morgan as a 1st Dan, now some 18 years later his student of more than 12 years Sensei Marlon BAARS 2nd Dan has become DOJO MASTER of Jishin's new headquarters.

General Information

The Jishin Academy was founded in 1988 by Shihan Kelly Morgan and since then the Academy has undergone many transitions. Proudly the Academy is best known for the development of a significant number of accomplished Judo Sport players and instructors and Shihan has personally assisted more than 25 individuals to gain their Shodan or higher Dan grade.

The Academy and our associated Schools are foremost dedicated to the teachings of Master Mikonosuke Kawaishi and his method of Ju-Jitsu & Judo, although we also teach the Kano Method of Judo Sport, thus providing a comprehensive system of traditional jujitsu and modern judo techniques to compliment the best of the old and new.

Morgan Shihan started martial arts from the age of six and he is now a skilled martial artist in a variety of traditional forms and modern forms, in addition to having been a Judo Sport State Champion, WA and National representative, state and international Coach, Referee and Tournament Administrator. Shihan is also a former member of the WA Police Service (over 17yrs service).

He trained at the renowned home of Judo (the Kodokan - Tokyo)in 1981 and also received instruction at the Police Headquarters Dojo under Muira Sensei. It was during this time he met some of Japan's and Judo greatest hers such as Yamashita and Endo (picture here with Endo outside the Kodokan Dojo).

Morgan Shihan was elevated to the rank of Shihan Rokudan (6th Degree) in the Kawaishi Method on the 3rd September 1999 by Master Brad Bradshaw (10th Dan - Victoria) and Kawaishi Method Master Hanshi Peter Chek 9th Dan.

Shihan with his four children after returning from a very successful tour of Singapore where the Academy competed at the 2000 Junior Singapore Invitation.

In 2000 Shihan was recognised by his Australasian mentors and peers as 'Jujitsu and Judo Instructor of the Year' and he was inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame and it's mother organisation the World Karate Union Hall of Fame in the USA.

Shihan Morgan now supports Sensei Baars at his first dojo in the running of his weekly classes for Junior & Senior students. Sensei Baars aptly named  this dojo 'Jishin Martial Arts' .

Shihan Morgan is also mentor to a number of WA Country based affiliates and the Academy also enjoys an extensive Australasian and overseas network, including a new academy branch in Sydney.

The New Dojo has inherited some of the features of the old Kenwick dojo.

This authentic WWII Officers Sword was presented to Shihan Morgan by Hanshi Chek following the very successful 'Peter Chek' Perth International Judo Tournament in November 1999.

This is a special learning system developed by Shihan Morgan for Children aged 5 to 12 Years.

The Kawaishi Kids Club provides a progressive learning system program that allows students to follow a 'step by step' and 'week by week' system to develop their competencies.

How does it work for the Member?

• When all aspects of the grade have been covered - you are ready for your grading examination to be conducted.

How does it help the Instructor?

• Instructors can assess a students progress by glancing at their personal grading record sheet.
