Left out in right-handed world
By Angela Foster
They often feel like they're a forgooten race and struggle for equality every day.
Using things like scissors, calculators and numbers on computer keyboards is often a nightmare and frustrating at the best of times.
But fear no more, left-handers. A coastal businessman has come to your rescue.
Peter Nalder says he now has the only shop for left-handed products in Ausralia, run from his video store in Devonport.
Mr Nalder, who is a left-hander, said yesterday the products were once sold in Sydney but the shop closed down after 42 years.
"Instead of having no store in Australia, we decided to have one here," he said.
"Left-handed people are discriminated against. I couldn't understand why I couldn't use a fountain pen but I'm left-handed, that's why."
"Scissors have always been a problem. If we use the ones for right-handers the blade is in the way and we can't see where we're cutting."
"It's the same with a ruler. Our hands are over the numbers and they run the wrong way."
Mr Nalder said he would market the left-handed products on the Internet from today.
He buys the products from around the world and has already had a lot of interest since opening Left Handed Products Australia last week.
