Other media portraits

I work only occasionally with acrylic paints when painting more abstract paintings due to their lower costs compared to oils. There is a large range of colours and being water soluble are very easy to use. However as the drying time for acrylics is very short compared to oils, I tend to use oils so I have more time to work on the portrait before it dries. There are mediums today that I mix with acrylics to slow their drying time and so it is an effective alternative to oil paints.

Water colours are what I consider the most challenging medium. It takes a lot of planning and care as well as experience to master water colours. While I enjoy doing the odd portrait or painting for myself I do not take commissions for water colours as I do not believe my level of artistic ability is that of the other media I work with. With practice I’m sure I will one day offer water colour portraits, but until then I leave it to the clever people who can handle this medium!
