The construction of the railway was began from Teepookana in 1894 at the head of navigation of the King River, The first section to start was the 1 in 20 grade and was let to Garnsworthy and Smith Railway Contractors of Melbourne.
A wharf and steam crane operated at Teepookana unloading the lighters that were towed from Strahan across the harbour and up the King River.
The first Station Master and shipping agent was Mr H Gill, The line was later extended to Regatta Point in 1899.

Lowana was a siding to a timber mill on the banks of the King River about two mile from Regatta Point. Today it is the siding for the carriage of bees hives into Teepookanna Plateau and Huon Pine out for Milling
