It was the good fortune of an Italian Government Scholarship
in 1979 that took me to Carrara in Italia that helped
set me on my course as a carver of marble. From the moment
I arrived in Carrara
and my first hammering, chisel biting marble I was in
love! Some twenty years on I am still driven with the
same unbridled passion to carve! This ongoing experience
[I travel regularly to Carrara] the joy and the struggle
of what it means to carve marble has profoundly affected
me. To all those who have lived and worked in Carrara:
what a brother and sisterhood! You know you are an old
hand when you have heard the artigiani shake their heads
and remark "un altro con la mallatia del marmo!"
