- James Gray boards the Swallow at Portsmouth 23 October; fleet weighs anchor 1 November and sails to Lisbon

- The Swallow arrives Gibralter in January

- Lieutenant Wagget first taken ill

- Sails to Mauritius via Cape of Good Hope and arrives in June, invasion of Mauritius aborted and continues on to India;

- Arrives Fort St. David 28 July

- Attack on Pondicherry begins 8 August. British begin retreat 30 September and marines transferred from Swallow to Eltham

- James Gray aboard the Eltham which leaves for Bombay 25 October

- The Eltham arrives back at Fort St. David in late May
