Welcome to my Escort page

This is a 1979 2 door RS 2000 Escort. I purchased the Escort in March 97. I bought this car locally in Alice Springs and it was in very poor condition. When I went to inspect the car the guy told me the diff was making a bit of a noise and he took me for a drive and yes it wasn't well. He stopped down the road a bit to let me have a test drive. I moved the car less than 6 inches and the diff let go completely. We had to get a passing motorist to tow us back to his house. I ended up buying the car at a much reduced price and had it towed home for the restoration to begin. I started by stripping the car to a bare shell and removing the front gaurds.

After seeing how many rust repairs and how much panel beating needed to be done I decided to build myself a rotissery. The rotissery proved to be inexpensive to build and made the job at hand so much easier. Being able to spin the car over to where you want to work made the rust repairs much easier.

Most rust repairs on the shell have been completed and the transmission tunnel changed to one off an automatic Escort to give more room for a five speed gearbox. It was at this stage when a mate in Sydney put his MK I Taunus Coupe up for sale and I could not resist buying it. He told me at the time that it would be the end of the rebuild for th Escort as the Taunus would take my attention. He was right, the Escort got pushed to the back of the shed and the rotissery was extended to take the Taunus. The Escort still sits in the back of the shed awaiting completion. I have an EFI manifold, throttle body and a Sierra 5 speed to install at some stage. I don't expect this car to be back on the road for a few years yet as I have a lot of other projects to complete first.
