| Name |
Felix Andy Paul Scerri |
| Location |
Ingham, Queensland |
| DOB |
14/12/62 |
| Years licenced on AR |
First licensed in 1985, and I have
been active in this great hobby ever since |
| What VHF+ bands are you active on |
So
far only on 2m FM on VHF |
| Favourite VHF+ band |
2m |
| Favourite VHF+ mode |
FM |
| Favourite VHF+ propagation mode |
Whatever is usable with a homebrew
5 element yagi at 26 ft! |
| I got started in radio when |
I first heard Short Wave radio on
my grandmothers old valve radio, as a small child back in the 60's |
| What I like most about VHF+ DX is |
What be can achieved with a
homebrew 5 element yagi at 26 ft! |
| Toughest thing about VHF+ DX is |
"So close, yet so far" |
| The best set up I have had for VHF+ DX is |
My present set-up, (FT 3000M with
home brew 5 element yagi at 26 ft) |
| Favourite station to contact |
Mike vk4mik. He's even keener
than I am! |
| Most memorable contact and why |
Quite a few, I think working down
to the Townsville 2m repeater from the Atherton Tablelands with my
homebrew 3 element portable yagi for the first time, is amongst them! |
| Most memorable propagation opening or condition and why |
Probably the above contact |
| People most admired in AR |
The innovators and true pioneers |
| I'm really good at |
Thinking and talking (it also gets
me into lots of trouble) |
| I'm really bad at |
Keeping my mouth shut, still I'm a
man of principle.
That's why I get into trouble a lot. I'm not content to stay quiet,
when I feel strongly about something, and "powerful" people
often don't like that! |
| Favourite music |
Nearly everything, when its good,
but especially Classical, Jazz, Blues, and Jimi Hendrix |
| Favourite TV show |
I don't watch much TV, but I'd say
"The Simpson's" |
| Favourite food |
Being a type 2 diabetic, anything
with a low glycemic index or "GI"
|
| Favourite drink |
(Unfortunately) water! |
| What really annoys you |
Evil, unprincipled, opportunistic
or otherwise
"dysfunctional" people and idiots generally |
| I wish I could stop |
Worrying about the world |
| Biggest regret |
Too many to mention, being born
perhaps!? |
| I hope I never have to |
Die! But there's no getting
out of that one, I'm
afraid. I've come close to death a few times and I don't really like
it! I'm now an "incomplete paraplegic" as a result of one of
those incidents, and that's bad enough! |
| Smartest thing I've ever done |
Designing my two small 2m
"strip" yagi's, amongst other things |
| Dumbest thing I've ever done |
similar to regrets, perhaps being
too honest and upfront |
| Best advice I've ever had |
On a technical theme, many years
ago, after a long string of yagi antenna failures, copying published
designs, I was advised by a very knowledgeable local ham, to optimise an
antenna design, using actual field strength measurement. Shortly
thereafter, I built a good field strength meter and I've never looked
back!
It was great advice. My two "strip" yagis were designed
this way, using
actual field strength measurement, and I'm very happy with them |
| Advice to new VHF+ DX'ers |
Be observant, and strive for
excellence in all areas |
| Future VHF DX goals |
Keep on enjoying the great hobby of
Amateur Radio in
these uncertain times, and work a bit more 2m dx |
