Doug VK3UM's Amazing UHF Dish
It is difficult to grasp the size of the dish from distance shots but the one of Doug standing at the base, this gives a better perspective. It weighs just over 2500 kg with an additional 820kg counter weight. Foundation 18 ton concrete.
Full specification to 7.5 GHz and usable at 10.3GHz.
Elevation .. 2 x 12 ton hydraulic rams driven from a 3 HP single phase pump motor. Azimuth motor draws 85A @ 20v and the proportional pulse width control supply is sizable! Mounted on a 1250 kg Centurion Tank 3m diam ring gear.
All computer controlled with my software and gray code indicators and provides tracking accuracy to 0.5 degrees absolute repeatability.
ACA High power permit allows 1500w at feed for 70cm and 750w for 23 cm, not that Doug needs to run that much power. Doug generally work's only CW random (except on exceptional circumstances) and regularly works stations down to 15kW EIRP on 70cm. Doug has been spending more time on Radio Astronomy than EME of late!

Above - Doug VK3UM and Dish. This gives a better idea of the size we are talking about.
