LOWDINA
(
FORMERLY LOWER JERUSALEM & WOODLANDS)

Name changed to Woodlands in 1894 and later Lowdina in 1914.  Lowdina is a Tasmanian Aboriginal word meaning "dog".

HISTORY

Lower Jerusalem as a settlement developed around the inn called the Half-way House.  The inn was approximately half way between Richmond and Jerusalem, hence its name.

Much of the early land grants adjoining and to the north of Lower Jerusalem had been purchased by Lieutenant-Governor Arthur, or his agents, and consolidated into his Jerusalem Estate.
