Farmer and hotelier. Born 18th May 1815 with a twin brother, William. Son of James Stynes and Sarah Clarke.
Stynes took over James Humes' Angel Inn on the Coal River Road in October 1835. The business did not, however, prosper, as Stynes had to sell household items and his interest in an unfinished house and land on the Coal River Road on 9th June 1836.
In 1841, Stynes applied for a license for a hotel on the Coal River named The Plough and Harrow, but was refused on the basis of "objections to premises and applicant." Stynes applied again for a licence in November 1847, this time for a hotel called A New House. This too, was refused, but this time on the grounds that a further hotel in Richmond was not required.
Stynes never married. He died in Geelong, Victoria on 17th July 1883.
