The tambouritza is played all over the Balkans. It is a small, flat relative of the mandolin, easy to build and astonishingly loud for its tiny size.

The Croatian Club in Adelaide (Brompton) has a very large and active folk dance department called 'LENEK', which consists of various dance groups of several age groups. Smaller groups travel and perform with CD backing, some of which have been recorded by Dieter. Once a year, they have a large event in the Croatian Club where the tambouritza group performs. In 2003 and 2004 Dieter Hauptmann was concertmeister.
