Upcoming Meeting:   “Ayre” is the Word!

It has been some time since we held the last meeting. You would be wrong if you think that we Committee members have been resting on our laurels. In fact, we have already put together some fantastic programs for our upcoming meetings. Please check out the “Future Meetings” column by President Justin.

To kick off the Year of the Woofers, we have sourced some serious toys from Uncle Joe and we’ll demonstrate a system that’ll get your ears (and your tails) wagging. And here are the system components:

  • Source: Ayre C-5xe Universal Player.  Here is a player that’s capable of playing all existing optical disc formats, i.e., CD, SACD, DVD-A and DVD-V minus video. This is one machine that sets a new  standard in music reproduction.  Outputs can be either in un-balanced or balanced.

  • Preamplifier: Ayre K-5xe. This preamp uses exclusive fully balanced, zero feedback circuitry to deliver absolute sonic transparency.  The 66 steps volume control at 1 db attenuation is actuated by a silky smooth optical encoder and using FET switches and precision metal film resistors. One of the main threats to audio reproduction integrity is what we call noisy signals, e.g., digital switching pulses. For the display and output data from the uprocessor, the pre amp’s microprocessor can be switched off when not required; hence clean signal can be guaranteed.

  • Power Amplifier: Ayre V-1x. This is an all-FET, zero-feedback balanced power house employing 32 high current devices per channel. It is capable of delivering 400 watts X 2 in lush tonality. The other interesting feature of this amp is that it has inductor input power supply filtering, and wait for it, Ayre Conditioner. their version of the power line and RFI filtering.

  • Cabling: “Ray Junior’s Special”. I have had the pleasure of auditioning a number of cables from our fellow member Raymond Yau (a.k.a. Ray Junior) lately and I can tell you I have been very impressed by them. In particular, one of his speaker cables that employs copper and silver alloy is really outstanding, not to mention superb value for your dollar. We’ll be using this “Ray Junior’s Special” speaker cables plus some balanced interconnects sourced from Lamwin Estate.

As for the music, Maestros Richard Wong and Egar Kramer will be our music directors for the day. Judging from their past records, we’ll all be in for a very pleasant musical treat.

Venue:  Haberfield Community Centre,

              78-80 Dalhousie Rd, Haberfield.

Date:    Sunday February 26th, 2006

Time:   3 PM to 6 PM

See you there!
