Members

The Central Queensland Contemporary Artists is a social group of visual artists. We are based in the Central Queensland city of Rockhampton and meet regularly to enjoy our art in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our group is made up of various members of the community from young to young at heart and from all walks of life. The variety of our group enriches our artistic perspective with learners encouraged and challenged by more experienced artists.

The group formed about 30 years ago to further members interest in art. Painting was what brought us together but we diversified into many other mediums as well. We explored printing, life drawing, etching, papermaking, batik, paper mache, marbling and pottery.

Activities

Fieldtrip to Carnarvon Gorge

We have bought many well known art tutors to Rockhampton, ran Flying Art School's seminars and also the Cooee Bay Art Workshops for many years.

One of our most enjoyable activities are field trips. We have covered Lake Julius, Idalia National Park, Fraser Island, Crystal Waters, Carnarvon Gorge, Cania Gorge, Blackdown Tablelands, Baralaba, Biloela and our own local areas. These trips can last from half a day to 2 weeks.

Exhibitions

Local exhibition We have held group and solo exhibitions and our members have been very successful in a number of Queensland art competitions, appeared in art magazines, lectured and held art classes. As a group we have travelled to Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and to regional art galleries to peruse and study special exhibitions that come to Australia and Central Queensland.

Our aim is to show people new ways of looking at art and to maybe appreciate the art all around them.
