he Strange Adventures of Marco Polo (1972) 40min. One-act opera. The score exists in two forms: 1. For voice with piano accompaniment. 2. For voice with chamber orchestra (string and wind quartet, trumpet, horn, piano, percussion). Libretto: David Cox. Score and parts from the composer. The opera was commissioned by the Queensland Opera Company who toured the work throughout Queensland schools in 1973 and 1974. The work was performed by members of the Queensland Opera Company who were accompanied by the Queensland Youth Orchestra. Marco Polo (1976) 30min. A scaled down version of the opera. Songs From the Beasts' Choir (1978) 8min 40sec. A cycle of five songs for soprano voice, flute and piano. (i) The Starfish; (ii) The Flea; (iii) The Centipede, (iv) The Fly, (v) Little Song; English translations by Rumer Godden from original French poems by Carmen Bemos de Gasztold. This cycle was performed at the Carnegie Recital Hall and the Symphony Space, New York in 1981, at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Charleston, 1984, and at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, 1984.
