Vocabulary flashcards are nothing new. However, using them productively usually involves a high level of teacher involvement. This innovation, which I originally developed for my own pre-school child, greatly improves on the traditional game of matching caption words to pictures. Students are able to verify for themselves whether or not they have made the right match, and can therefore play unsupervised against the clock. Along with the extra visual interest, this makes the game significantly more engaging.
