My Italian Greyhounds presented a very interesting
predicament for me. I knew that the Australian Standard called for much less
of an arch over the loin than I was used to, and I was determined to judge by
the Australian Standard. However, slight arch, is not NO arch. Way too many
of my entries had no arch at all, giving a very tubular appearance, and taking
away from breed type. I really agonized about saying this in a critique, but
felt the exhibitors deserved to know my feelings and to understand why some of
my decisions were made. That said, my winners were absolutely beautiful.
They were some of the typiest little dogs I had seen in a long time. My BOB,
Ch. Berizza Few Are Chosen, from the Open Dog class, was a classic IG. From
his lovely head with correct length of muzzle, correct eye and ears, down a
beautifully arched neck into a well laid back shoulder; he just flowed into
the correct rise over the loin and down to a properly set tail. He had just
the right amount of brisket rising to a tuckup that matched his topline. He
had the correct amount of angulation behind with his front set properly
underneath him. A wonderfully balanced little dog who also had the proper IG
movement, high-stepping but NOT hackneyed. A pleasure to go over and to watch
move. My Runner-Up BOB, Angelini Don Quixote, from the Minor Dog class had
almost all the attributes of my BOB dog, lacking only maturity of body. His
movement kept getting better each time I moved him, and the final go round had
him going almost to perfection. He will be one to watch.
It was interesting for me to see that the same dog
sired both my IG CCs, with the same kennel name being on my Reserve Bitch CC
and on the Sire of my Runner-Up BOB.
***My notes:
Hugo Boss sired both CC winners, and Res CC was
also Berizza, young Dancer is by Berizza Crimson Tide***
