Choice Song, a magnificent looking Unbridled's Song half-brother to Redoute's Choice, suffered a terrible injury today, after winning at Mornington Choice Song, who had only the 7 starts for 3 wins and a second, had just fought out a tight finish to win the Class 2 over 1500m, when a few strides after the winning post he faltered, and broke his foreleg, and as a result was humanely destroyed. Choice Song came to the stables, a blue blooded colt, everyone was keen to see what he was like. He was a very colty young horse, not what you would call well behaved, a bit of a ladies man. He had 3 starts in his first preparation, debuting with a sound 2nd at Mornington, followed up with a 6th at Bendigo and then scored his first impressive win, in a Maiden over 1400m at Werribee in February 2002. He was still a little immature, so Brian decided to turn him out, and during this spell, the arrogant colt, became a little less arrogant, but alot more managable, gelding. He returned to the stables in June 2002, and resumed in a 1340m Class 1 at Geelong July, finishing a sound 5th, then ran at Bendigo over 1600m, finishing 7th. He next stepped out at Seymour on 20 August 2002, and won the Class 1 over 1400m impressively, and it looked like he was finally getting it all together in his head, he realised he was a racehorse. And today he raced at Mornington, in a Class 2 over 1500m, he had to fight to win, and displayed alot of courage to outlast his rivals, to win by a head, before his tragic injury. Choice Song was a horse with personality, and he will be sadly missed by his owners, the Teeley Assets Syndicate, Mr Yaseen and Ms O'Farrell, Brian & Maree Mayfield-Smith, and all connected to the stables. |
