Brett McKern was born in Sydney in 1972 and was schooled at Newington College. From there he went to the University of New South Wales gaining degrees in Music and Education. He taught in schools and was Organist and Choir Director in churches in Sydney until 1995 when he went to England to become further involved in church music. After working in London he was appointed Head of Chapel Music and Organist at Trent College. In 1997 Brett returned to Sydney and again taught and worked in churches. In 1999 Brett gave up teaching to concentrate on his own career as a performer. Brett is represented as a composer by the Australian Music Centre. He is also presently working on a doctorate in musical composition at the University of Wollongong. He now holds the following appointments:
* Assistant Director of Music and Music Administrator, St James' Church, King Street, Sydney * Lecturer in Church Music and Chapel, Organist, St John's Theological College, Morpeth, NSW * Lecturer in Church Music, The Australian International Conservatorium of Music * Casual Lecturer in Music, The University of Wollongong * Chair of the Australian Advisory Council of The Guild of Church Musicians. * Associate Composer of the Australian Music Centre
