Hello and welcome to Thurgoona Astronomy...

The New for February 2008 :

The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our local astronomy club ASAW has a new website. Take a look!

The Lost Mick Laws Moon File!
Yep here it is folks, you wont see too many slender crescent moons like this one captured by Mick Laws. The young moon was only 27.5 hours old when captured at 420mm focal length from Micks property north west of Albury.

The Comet!
Comet McNaught (2006 P1)
In this part of the world prolonged bush fires provided a smoky haze for hundreds of kilometers around. As the smoky then cloudy days ticked by we thought we were doomed to miss out.... the comet might fade away to a smear before we had a clear sky. What happened when the skies cleared?

Since so many folk ask about what happened to Pluto, here is our spin on it.
And here is the IAU spin on it. Ho Hummmm what a dreary crowd. Of course they are right. By the new planetary definitions Pluto has to get into the right doghouse. We suppose we’ll all get used to it. On the bright side Pluto is now the head of the Minor Planets instead of the tail of the Majors. Woof woof Pluto!

The Astro Photo Album starts here.

Clear skies astrodudes,
Bruce and Barb Thompson.
