Changing a Flat Tyre

In the event of a flat tyre, do not panic, do not apply your brakes suddenly.Try to drive the car off the road and away from passing traffic,Try to park on solid ground, suitable for jacking up the car.

Firstly apply the handbrake and place the vehicle in gear.

Try to find a solid object such as a rock to use as a chock to pevent the car from rolling.

To complete this task you will need the following tools from the boot; wheelbrace, screwdriver or lever ,the jack and its handle.

Now remove the hub cap (if it has still got some!) by inserting a large screwdriver between the wheel and the hub cap, and levering to one side.

Next, the wheel nuts have to be loosened by forcing the wheelbrace in an anticlockwise direction.

If the wheel nuts are too tight, you can use your whole body weight to place force upon the wheelbrace in order to loosen them.

We now install the vehicle's jack in the correct position designated by the vehicle manufacturer. If this information is not available jack the car in a solid position under the sill close to the wheel arch, this is usually the strongest part of the vehicle.Do not jack up the vehicle in the middle of the floor pan, as damage to the body work may occur.Lift the vehicle with the jack this usually involves turning the jack handle clockwise to raise the car off the ground.

Now remove the wheel nuts and replace the wheel with the (hopefully!) good spare.

Replace the wheel nuts with the tapered section facing the wheel, then proceed to tighten the wheel nuts back up starting with one then tightening the nut diagonally opposite to this.

Lower the vehicle to the ground, finish tightening the wheel nuts and refit the hub cap, remove the chocks and you're on your way.At the next available roadhouse or garage have the spare repaired or replaced.A simple puncture repair involves a "vulcanizing patch" and is usually around 10 to 20 dollars to repair.
