STYLE OF YOGA

The kind of yoga that I teach is best described as general Hatha Yoga. I don’t pertain to any particular school of yoga, although I lean a bit towards the Iyengar style because of the precision that I like the postures to be practised with. From time to time, however, I teach some Astanga Yoga (or Power Yoga), Chi-Gung and Tai Chi sequences that I find interesting and think that my students might enjoy.

I think it’s important to point out that all physical yoga involving postures and breathing exercises is Hatha Yoga. So most Western yoga classes are actually Hatha Yoga classes. There are many different kinds of Hatha Yoga now: Astanga, Iyengar, Satchinanda and Bikram, just to name a few. However, they all fall under the umbrella of Hatha Yoga, which also includes the practice of kriyas, which are bodily cleansing practices.

There are other kinds of yoga besides the physical Hatha Yoga. Some of these are Gnana Yoga (the yoga of knowledge and wisdom); Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of love and devotion); Karma Yoga (the yoga of action); and Kundalini Yoga (the yoga of the body’s energy systems).

I hope this short definition has been helpful to you.
