The
International Division, Victorian Department of Education and Training
has announced details of scholarships being offered to
teachers of Chinese by the Chinese Consulate-General's Education
Section in Melbourne.
The scholarships involve intensive Chinese language training at
East China Normal University in Shanghai, followed by a study
tour of schools in and around Shanghai. The scholarships are for
a period of four weeks in December 2003/January 2004.
Six scholarships are being offered to non-Chinese citizens of
Australia with at least three years teaching experience.
The successful applicants will be expected to meet the cost of
their return airfares and insurance for travel between Australia
and China. All other costs will be borne by the local Chinese
education authorities.
The intensive language training course will begin on or about
7th - 10th. December.
Leave
arrangements and teacher
replacement will need to be negotiated with schools, since no
additional funding will be provided by DE&T.
Selection of the six scholarship winners will be carried out by
a Selection Committee, comprising representatives from DE&T
and the Chinese Consulate-General.
