William Painter was born in Ireland in 1838 and moved to the United States at the age of 20, He had over 80 patents accredited to his name, which included the crown seal bottle, its cap, its bottle opener and a machine for crowning the bottles. He became the he founder of Crown Holdings
In 1892 Painter invented the crown seal bottle cap thus changing the soft drink industry packaging forever. The company grew quickly, and by the time of Painter died in 1906, the company had plants in Europe, Asia, and South America. By the time the 1930s rolled around, Crown Cork and Seal was producing half of the world’s supply of bottle caps.
It must be motioned there is some suggestion that inventor Alfred Louis Bernardin and founder of the Bernardin Bottle Cap Company has laid claim to the inventions lodging patents around the same time.
