Wanted
I was once asked why did I collect old bottles. My reasons or motives over time have changed like the weather. Originally as a young ten year old boy all I wanted to do was find a blue castor oil bottle, an item that was esteemed very highly at the time, so the quest began. Pickles sauces wines beers crown seals demijohns and blacks, I found in the local creeks and around shearing sheds. Finally there is was the mythical blue castor oil lying on the ground beside a windmill and it was all mine.
People collect for many different reasons, some for the quest or challenge to obtain that elusive piece or to obtain a whole set in a series. Others collect for the shear beauty such as the unique color of old glass bottles, while others have a passion for history and quest for preserving the past . Some have family ties with a particular company and collect items that were manufactured by maybe great grand parents
So for what ever reason it’s a great and interesting hobby.
