What will you pay for a Saluki puppy ?

Prices for Saluki puppies vary enormously, right across Australia, let alone Worldwide. Currently the mean average range in Australia would be from $600 to $1500 [some are much higher]. My Prices generally tend to be middle of the range. To date, my base price has been kept under $1000 $AU.

Basic litter prices, are generally worked out according to various cost factors. Very few breeders make the fabled "hefty profit" that people generally like to associate with the term 'breeder'. In many cases you will pay more for the X bred pups you can buy from pet shops than you will for a carefully bred, pedigree puppy from a registered 'breeder'. It is also well to note here, that pet shops will NOT give you any after sales back up. Many registered breeders do.

Here at "Farousi" we do not charge more for bitches than dogs. We do not charge more for smooth variety pups - just because they are "rare" to the Western world. We do not sell puppies without papers, except in very exceptional circumstances, however, the puppies are never sold cheaper because of that.  We charge the same price across the entire litter, because they all cost exactly the same in time, care, and money, to rear.

The factors by which we fix a price for puppies from any given litter, are based on what the litter is likely to cost us to rear; what we may have paid for stud fee; what veterinary costs could, or will likely be involved; the cost of registering the mating, the litter, and each puppy, with CAWA, our governing body. We add a small % for unexpected costs we might also encounter, and a small % for the status of the parents within the general Saluki community [ie: are they champions? are they proven parents of champion puppies, or able, coursing puppies?]. Then we add another small % to cover all the 24/7 hours of work we put into keeping the mother well during pregnancy, and what sometimes seems like 36 hour days, in the work to raise the small, growing puppies. After all, you like to get paid if you "work" dont you ? But trust me, we dont charge you anything like the value of our time. So much of it is done for "love" of what we do, and the Salukis we produce.  They get the best that we can give them.

When we sell puppies overseas, while it seems the price is higher, it is not. We still use the base puppy price for that litter. However, the costs involved with selling puppies overseas are quite high : extra veterinary costs, ISD [International] microchipping, extra paperwork and paperwork costs, a lot of extra running around town for AQIS requiremets, etc.  We also have to keep the pups here for quite a while longer than the puppies who are sold within Australia, and growing pups need a lot of extra care and feeding.  The price we quote for selling overseas, is inclusive of these things, which often are normally charged as *extras* by some breeders.  In overseas sales, the only *extra* we add after the sale, is the cost of shipping and that is incurred to the shipping company we employ.  We do not see any of that.

So what do you get if you buy a "Farousi" bred Saluki puppy?

Firstly - I will NEVER guarantee a "SHOW DOG", an Agility Champion, or Lure Coursing Champion! There are too many variables associated with what constitutes competitive dog sports. After 30 years of breeding & showing, and many years of judging in the showring, I like to think I can make a fairly educated assessment of which puppies might have the most potential to be shown, however, [those variables again], I will still NOT guarantee a show dog.

I will guarantee you will have a pure Saluki puppy who is of the pedigree that comes with it. You will have back up for anything associatied with your puppy, and encouragement for the life of the dog [and often beyond].

I will guarantee that your puppy will have had all the relevant age required vacinations and wormings by the time he/she goes home with you. The puppies are thoroughly veterinary checked and if you wish, our family vet [Dr. Phil Lawton of Avon Valley Vet Clinic, Toodyay] is happy to issue a certificate pertaining to the pups' health at that time.  Dr. Lawton is also available for you to talk to him about your puppy from us, or just to check our credibility, if you so desire.  The Avon Valley Vet Clinic Ph. # is (08) 9574 5055 during business hours.

Your Puppy will [unless it's interstate or overseas] go home with enough food that it is used to, to last for a good few days. This helps make the transition of home to home, as easy as possible on everyone, especially the puppy.  Nearly all our puppies also take with them a bunny rug and their favourite toy.

All our puppies are registered with the Canine Association of WA [CAWA] our state controlling body affiliated with the Australian National Kennel Council.

Our puppies are reared in the house so they become used to 'sounds', like radio, washing machine, vaccuum cleaner, pots and pans, etc. They meet the adult Salukis in the house, as soon as they are able to walk. We have a very large back garden [grassed] for relevant exercise for proper growth. By 6 weeks the puppies begin full integration with the adults, during supervised play there too .

As Puppy Granny - I run an email group/list for all puppy parents who have internet access. In this area, puppy parents can exchange notes and photos of their respective pups, siblings, and relatives, plus the group encouragement of extended "family" for times of distress and celebration.    Our family now reaches out around the world.

If there is anything you feel I have not covered here - then PLEASE - phone us or email us with your question. All our communication details can be found on the "Contact" page
