After leaving HMAS Darwin I spent a long time at Navy Office. This is where my rugby playing days definitely ended with a knee reconstruction after a comeback to Mons Cup for Harman. I didn't make it past the first training session. I was posted to HMAS Perth in 1990 and then to MOTU in 1992. I remarried in 1993 and paid off to Toowoomba (QLD) in 1995.

I worked as an electrician for a family company called Weis. They make great fruit based ice cream bars. I also performed unofficial daily quality assurance of the product and acted as a test subject for R&D experiments. R&D was conveniently located next door to the workshop. Rapid weight gain ensued. After two years and a disagreement with the engineer I quit, along with the rest of the maintenance department, all two of us. I have often wished I could tell an engineer to shove his job up his freckle. My resignation letter could have resulted in a defamation law suit, however I was lucky.

I then worked with an electrical contracting firm. After that as maintenance electrician for an abattoir and a company called Wagners which had interests in cement, quarrying, transport and farming. At Wagners, I worked for a fine old gent called Max who was in his early 60's. I watched what him work for about 10 months and decided that I didn't want to be an electrician for the rest of my life.

I was always interested in computers so I did a degree in Information Technology at the University of Southern QLD. In 2001 we moved to Canberra where I worked for 10 months with the ATO. I am currently working for the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) developing web applications for the department.
