About the Shortlands Wetlands Centre

In 1985, a not-for-profit community organization called the Shortland Wetlands Centre Trust established Australia's first Wetlands Centre.

The original vision was to involve the community in managing Shortland Wetlands and to promote understanding, conservation and enjoyment of wetlands.
From 1986, restoration and development of the wetlands centre has been supported by significant partnerships with like minded organizations. The original landscaping was achieved in partnership with the Society for Growing Australian Plants (now Australian Plants Society), showcasing Australian natives.
The Australian Plants Society is still heavily involved in the landscaping of the wetlands centre.
