13.0 DUTIES OF THE CHALKER/CALLER

13.1 In all games the score shall be assessed by a Chalker/Caller who shall stand to the left of the dartboard.

13.2 They shall ensure that the match is played in accordance with the rules as laid down. Their jurisdiction will commence once the player has been called to the oche for the commencement of the game.

13.3 Upon completion by the player of their throw of three (3) darts the Chalker/Caller shall decide the score thrown and shall communicate that score to the player. The score shall then be written on the score on the scoreboard. The scoreboard shall be located in a position in front of the players where it may be easily seen.

13.3.1 In the event of dart(s) being removed prior to the call, the Chalker/Caller decision is final. No alteration to the call will be made once the darts have been removed from the board. It is the player’s responsibility to ensure the score called is correct.

13.4 No call or information shall be given to a player once they are at the oche except by the Chalker/Caller. The Chalker/Caller may inform the player of the total score required to finish the game, only if they ask but shall not inform the player of the double required. The Chalker/Caller may also inform the exact position of a dart in the dartboard if asked by that player.

13.5 If the player asks the Chalker/Caller for the score remaining and the Chalker/Caller replies incorrectly the following shall apply:-

13.5.1 If the player scores the advised number and their last dart is the double required to complete the score- GAME SHOT. eg. If the player is advised they require 60 when in fact they require 58, a score of 20 double 20 will result in GAME SHOT.

13.5.2 If the player scores less than the number advised the number scored will be deducted from the actual remaining score. eg. If the player is advised they require 60 but in fact require 58 and they shoot 20 only, the remaining score is 38 and not 40.

13.5.3 If the player scores more than the number advised but also more than the actual remaining score the result is bust and the remaining score is in fact the actual score.

13.5.4 If the player scores more than the number advised but less than the actual remaining score the remaining score is in fact the new true remaining score. eg. If the player is needs 62 but is advised 58 and throws a score of 60 the remaining score is 2 and not bust.

13.6 The Chalker/Caller shall call GAME SHOT when a player scores the winning double with the last dart thrown to finish a game.

14.0 MARKING THE SCOREBOARD

14.1 The result of each player’s throw must be clearly shown giving the score thrown and balance required to finish the game.

14.2 The method of scoring shall be simple subtraction as per example shown below between player A and B.

A

B

501   125     501   100
60   55     120   B3
441   70     381   100
136   35     26   2 Darts (Game Shot)
305   35     355
100         120
205         235
80         125
125         100

14.3 Corrections to the score shown shall be challenged by a player to ‘CHECK SCORE’ prior to the first dart of that player’s next shot being thrown. If this is not done and it is obvious that the error adversely effects the game then either Captain may demand the game be halted until the error is corrected.

14.4 The Chalker/Caller shall stand motionless on the side of the dartboard. The Chalker/Caller shall complete the score and no darts should be thrown until this is fulfilled. If darts are thrown, the Chalker/Caller continues until he is finished and then stands motionless at the side of the dartboard.

15.0 FOOTFAULTS

15.1 To stand motionless and eyes on the darts the Chalker/Caller cannot adjudicate foot faults. If the opposing Captain feels that a player is gaining an unfair advantage by foot faulting, he may bring it to the attention of the other Captain who will instruct his player not to do so. If still dissatisfied, they may bring it to the attention of the Chalker/Caller who will then call from a point parallel to the oche but in no way as to ‘put off’ the player.

15.2 If there are any infringements of the oche he shall call “NO DART” and no score shall be recorded for that dart. The call is to be made as the dart leaves the hand.

16.0 MISS THROW

16.1 Darts accidentally dropped over the oche do not constitute a miss throw but if in the act of throwing a dart it falls beyond the oche then it is in fact a miss throw. Rules of FAIR PLAY and SPORTSMANSHIP apply.

17.0 LIGHTING OF THE DARTBOARD

17.1 The dartboard must be lit in such a manner that there be no shadow caste on the playing surface of the dartboard.

18.0 DARTS IN AND OUT OF PLAY

18.1 Scoring darts are those darts sticking in the dartboard at the completion of a throw of three (3) darts or less as is necessary and shall be indicated by the point of the dart which is definitely in or touching the dartboard’s defined scoring surface. If any or all darts fall out of the dartboard before the Chalker/Caller announces the total score thrown those darts fallen out do not count. Only darts actually touching or in the dartboard are counted when the score is announced.

18.2 If any dart is resting on top of another dart or darts, the point of such dart must be actually touching the dartboard’s surface to score the points.

19.0 THE DART

19.1 The dart may be of any make or material and weight best suited to the player but must not exceed an overall length of 19.05cm.

21.0 GAME SHOT

21.1 The game shot is when a player scores a double resulting in the amount of points required to finish the game.

21.2 Subject to both players/teams agreeing. Once double one is reached by both players/teams throwing for the bull may finish the game. Both players must have had five shots each at double one. In teams and doubles games there will be five shots at double one not five shots from each player. Once five shots at double one have been played, the next person on each team will throw one dart each at the bull. The Chalker/Caller will award the game to whoever is closest to the bull. If the Chalker/Caller cannot pick which dart is closest to the bull the darts will be rethrown. A score of double one will be entered on the score sheet.

22.0 PROTESTS

22.1 Any protest as to the legality of a dart thrown shall be made to Chalker/Caller.

22.2 Any protests as to the conditions of play or against a team or player shall be lodged with the opposing Captain. In the event of the conditions not being altered to comply with the protest, the Captain making the protest shall continue to play but ‘UNDER PROTEST’. Such protest should be written on the scoresheet stating the time and game being played. The protests should then be forwarded to the GDA Secretary in writing within 24 hours.
