Raymond and the Wolf
by Fred Prokofiev

I have always had an avid admiration for wild animals, and especially our historical nemesis, the wolf. Below is a link that will take you  into the world of this magnificent creature.

I was originally given the following link by a kind fellow poster, to an unofficial Helene Grimaud site, and who has a very keen interest in wolves.

The Wolf Conservation Center  is a not-for-profit educational organization supported entirely by donations from the public.

Click above logo for information on this much misunderstood, much maligned and magnificent animal, the wolf.

Only the mountain has lived long enough to listen objectively to the howl of a wolf. ALDO LEOPOLD, 1949

Another good link below for the wolf fanatics amongst us :

And below is a link that will take you to Helene Grimaud. I left this link last, as I know most will be looking at all the wolf information first <g>

André Previn Spoof Interview (and link to conductor page)

Conductor hero of my youth

André Previn

And soon you will all go out searching desperately for those Previn CDs you knew deep down you should have bought <g>

PREVIN SPOOF INTERVIEW

The above link leads to a "spoof" interview, and was kindly supplied by Peter McKenzie, who with little equipment managed to edit from a one hour broadcast of a Previn interview (circa 1978), a "spoof interview", acting as a "caller" who puts some "questions" to Previn.

Many thanks to Peter for his ingenuity and contribution, and to the link he provided for the above.

Doris Day

Summary of Site

Most important, is the ability for people visiting this site to make quick and easy access to the many classical music Websites, made available by their authors.

The various Classical Music sites are extremely valuable sources of information, and deserve to be looked at. Much effort has gone into creating them, along with the information they contain. I hope this site will enable quick and easy access to them.

My pages on Favourite Conductors contains brief autobiographical details and information, and will hopefully include more conductors, especially regarding the newer set of younger conductors, whose future lies before them.

The Doris Day page is included, because she is a favourite idol of mine, and I know her talents and vivacity (on CD and in film) gives pleasure to many people, and to serious music lovers too, who can embrace a wide variety of past musical and cinematic tastes.
Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin also have separate pages.
As does the great Maestro Eugene Ormandy.

Thanks to all those who voted their appreciation for Doris Day in a worthy effort to promote her for a Lifetime Award by Hollywood and the Music Industry.

Musical Interests

Ray Hall, B.Sc (Hons), HNC, AMIEE, AMIEEE. My mugshot, with my two wolves Toby and Misty, who listen devotedly to my keyboard playing - well, they never EVER complain, and they probably think I am Richter.

My favourite music is derived from the mainly tonal/atonal composers of the 20th century, including the later 19th century composers.

Mahler and Bruckner fit into a different category, and are my favourite composers of the German/Austrian Romantic period, Raff representing for me the truest essence and flavour of earlier German Romanticism.

I have a special interest in Sibelius, Nielsen and other Scandinavian composers, as well as American and British composers.

New discoveries for me recently include several of the symphonies and works of Malcolm Arnold, Sculthorpe, Russian liturgical works, and the early polyphonists from Dufay through to the more theatrical, sacred and secular music of Charpentier and Lully etc.

Some listening is given to early jazz, and the great saxophonists including  Hawkins, Parker, Getz, Mulligan and Coltrane. Also Armstrong, Bechet, Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, amongst many, all supreme masters of their respective musical instruments.

Also Doris Day, Billie Holiday, and Aretha Franklin, will feature as a few of my favourite singers.  As regards Opera Puccini will always find a place on my shelves. And a recent discovery is Pelleas and Melisande by Debussy.

Personal Information

Although now a devoted Sydneysider, in New South Wales, (I was born in Hampshire, UK), Tasmania is of increasing interest to me, as a possible place to retire, with a new source of wildlife to discover, such as the "extinct" Tasmanian Tiger, and the still thriving Tasmanian Devil. But Sydney still has a strong hold on me.

My interests outside of being a soccer "hooligan" and a combination of "Neville Cardus and Sir John Barbirolli" of the Sydney Cricket Ground mob, lie in my main interest of music, especially that of classical music.

Early days in Portsmouth UK, were spent at innumerable concerts given by Paavo Berglund and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and I became a devoted young groupie of the combination of the LSO and their whizz kid conductor Andre Previn.

My music tastes vary widely, from early music to that of the minimalists and Lutoslawski. I am constantly searching for new musical experiences. This is what keeps music "alive" for me, and forever exciting. I possess some minor amateur musical qualifications (playing the piano and keyboards to a reasonable level only).

I am an electrical/electronic engineer by profession, with extensive experience in medical electronics and telecommunications, but I wish to bore you no further.

Guestbook

Many thanks to all who have taken the time to visit my site. Hope it has been of some value to you, and is primarily designed for relative beginners to the world of classical world, although hopefully more experienced listeners will find some information of interest. It is far from complete, and certainly not perfect, but I hope you enjoyed the peek, and I intend to expand the conductor section, as well as add more useful classical music websites when available. I am sure there are more sites available. Please contact me to be added. Apologies to those I may have omitted.
