Our Gardens
The Gardens & Property
 |
Our
Site is north facing with approximately 15 degree slope which has been used
to full advantage to create a sun trap and extend our growing season by
reducing incidence of frosts and trapping available heat to compete against
the often harsh environment (cold frosty and foggy winters and hot dry
summers on predominately poor shallow mudstone derived & compacted
soils.)
|
 |
Extensive
shelterbelts (predominately eucalypts and wattles) planted to southern and
western boundaries give the property bad weather protection.
|
 |
Our orchard area includes
stone and pome fruit as well as small fruits (blackberries, raspberries,
grapes, blueberries etc)
|
 |
Extensive vegetable
growing area and chicken run.
|
 |
Ornamental
garden areas planted with birches, ashes, flowering cherries,
pittosporums and
Japanese maples, with an understorey
planted with roses, lavender, philadelphus etc.
|
 |
Ground
covering annuals and perennials predominately Dahlias, lupins, cosmos,
calendulas, pentstemon, sweet pea etc.
|
 |
A special
feature is the
1.6 km walking track along our creek and around
the
dams, ponds and the establishing wetlands area.
The track is
planted with native and
introduced
deciduous trees and has
sweeping grassed areas overlooking the water features. The track has park
benches provided to rest on and to absorb the peace. One of the
old Hop Pickers' Huts has been converted to a shelter so that you may take a
cup of beverage with you and sit under the verandah in comfort. A thermos
flask is
available to guests to use on the property.
