Below is a recent 12 day itinerary I used to include the annual 2007 Birdsville Races at a cost of $3000.00 per person.
Day 1 - 840km - 6.30am pick up at your Adelaide accom. Express to Port Augusta then ease back the pace through to Coober Pedy staying at "Riba's Underground " (if available)
Day 2 - 413km Coober Pedy - Dalhousie Springs via Painted Desert, Mt Arkaringa, Oodnadatta (refuel), Hamilton Station, old Pedirka Railway Siding, Dalhousie ruin and onto Dalhousie Springs - Bush Camp
Day 3 - 100km Witjira Nat. Park & Simpson Desert Regional Reserve - leisurely morning at Dal/Spr.to absorb surrounds, Then travel to approx. 100km into the Simpson Desert along the French Line. Via Freeth Junction, Purni Bore (lunch) then continue toward Approdinna Attora Knolls - Bush Camp
Day 4 - 140km Continue across Simpson spending time at Approdinna Attora Knolls,Lake Tamblyn, Lake Thomas and Poeppel Corner Bush Camp along K1 track
Day 5 - 100km Finish short section of K1 and enjoy QAA Line track for approx.90km Bush camp
Day 6 - 80km Complete the QAA Line ,see Big Red then find somewhere to camp just out of Birdsville, Join in with the Friday night festivities
Day 7 - 100-160km Watch the races, then start heading towards Innamincka (to escape the crowds)for a couple of hours by the route of Cordillo Downs Station (but not making it to CDS)
Day 8 - ~300km total/day Arrive Innamincka lunch time, visit Dig Tree & local sites on the Cooper Creek / Bush Camp Cullyamurra Waterhole
Day 9 - ~360km Coongie Lakes National Park refuel at Innamincka and head for the bore track (or old Strezlecki track & Merty Merty. We'll get advice at Inna. Re track conds.) via Bollards Lagoon Station (Yellow Double Decker Bus)& Camerons Corner/Corner Store reaching the north/west corner of Sturt National Park Bush Camp
Day 10 - ~180km Spend the bulk of the day exploring Sturt Nat Park then start heading to Tibooburra's Family hotel and visitor centre. I'll check availability for pub stay accom/meal.
Day 11 - ~380km Tibooburra to Broken Hill - take in the a stop at Packsaddle, Stephens Creek,explore Broken hill and take a visit out to Silverton. Comfortable accom in B.H with a restaurant finale dinner.
Day 12 - 713km Broken Hill - Adelaide Total Km approx. 3800km
