John Fraser, Farmer at Claran, on the Estate of Kilcoy was born on 27 May 1784 at Kirkhill. He was a respected elder in the Free Church in that parish, and died on 14 Oct 1850 at age 66. He married Hannah Hutcheson, on 8 Aug 1817 at Kiltarlity. His wife, an intelligent and devoted Christian, was a daughter of Mr Alexander Hutcheson, famous among the "Men" of his day. Mr Hutcheson, or as he was usually called by the Highlanders, Alasdair Hutcheson, was a small farmer in Kiltarlity, near Inverness. He was early brought to a saving knowledge of Christ, and, on account of his eminent piety and gifts, was appointed catechist of the parish, the duties of which office he continued to discharge most efficiently to the end of his life, at the same time earning the esteem and warm affection of the parishioners.
