
John Gallagher was born circa 1837 at Rathmullen, Donegal, Ireland. He married Eliza McNarry, daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth McNarry , circa 1856 at Gavagh, Derry, N.Ireland. John and Eliza emigrated aboard "British Empire" as remittance immigrants on 7 Feb 1859. The farm first occupied by the Gallagher family was to the south west of the town of Allora, Queensland. In 1869 he was an alderman of the first council of Allora and in 1870 was elected people's warden of the newly formed Allora parish of the Church of England. He died on 26 Feb 1893 at Allora. His death certificate gives his parents as John Gallagher, labourer, and Nancy Corbett.
