
We regret to announce the death of Mrs.Elizabeth Grayson,wife of Thomas Grayson, of South Killarney, which sad event took place at her residence at 9.45 a.m.yesterday. The deceased had been ailing for some time, and her demise was not altogether unexpected. She was born at Boconnell, County Armagh, Ireland,and was married to Mr.Grayson at Armagh, Ulster, Ireland in May 1873, and shortly afterwards left with her husband for Queensland in the sailing ship Great Queenslander, eventually reaching Killarney and residing here ever since.
Together with her husband she made a trip home in 1908. She was a sister of Mr.Geo.Mawhirt, South Killarney, and leaves a family of 13, all of whom are living, to mourn their irreparable loss. The members of the family are Mrs.Gallagher (Coorparoo), Mrs.C.Mutch (Swan Creek), Mrs.C.Fletcher (Koreelah), Mrs.Geo.Ellis (Allora), Mrs.J.Mogridge (Killarney),Mrs.H.Groves (Maryvale), Miss Flo.Grayson (Killarney) and Messrs.Alex and Norman (Killarney), James (Koreelah), Allen (Tanymorel), John (Loch Lomond) and William (Southport). She also leaves 31 grand-children.
The funeral took place this morning to the Killarney cemetery, and was largely attended, the Rev.Glover, Warwick, officiating at the graveside. Norman, the youngest son, served with the A.I.F.in the present war, whilst the two eldest sons, James and John, served in the Boer War. We join in extending our sympathy to the bereaved relatives. On October 13, the death occurred of Mr.Thomas Grayson, at his residence 'Lakeview', South Killarney, at the age of 79 years, after an illness extending over a period of months. The deceased was born at Boconnell, County Armagh, Ireland. He was married in Ireland, and shortly afterwards came to Queensland in the sailing ship Great Queenslander , eventually going to Killarney, where he resided for the rest of his life. When he first went to Killarney he was employed by the late Mr.Theo.Howell on Melrose station. He was one of the original settlers of the homesteads opened up at Killarney in the seventies, hence another of the fast diminishing ranks of the old pioneers has passed away.
He was a man of great character, one whose word was his bond, and a successful and competent farmer. Together with his late wife, who predeceased him twelve and a half years ago, and his youngest son, he took a trip home to Ireland in 1908. During his illness he was attended by the members of his family, with loving care and attention. He leaves to mourn his loss six sons and seven daughters: James (Koreelah, N.S.W.): Thomas John (Loch Lomond); Allan (Mt.Colliery); William Mawhirt(Brisbane); Alexander and Norman (Killarney); Mrs.Gallagher (Brisbane); Mrs.Mutch (Freestone); Mrs.Fletcher (Koreelah, N.S.W.); Mrs. Groves (Swan Creek) Mrs.Ellis (Sandgate); Mrs.Mogridge (Killarney); and Miss Flo.Grayson (Killarney) also 41 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
