Dalnashean

from the diary of John Alexander Hutcheson Fraser (1876-1939)

In 1870, Dalnashean was built for Robert Macfie's sister-in-law Mary Fairrie. "Dalnashean" is the Gaelic for the home of the Fairies. After the death of my Grand Aunt Mary at Dalnashean in 1889, we had the use of Dalnashean for a couple of months each year from 1890 to 1896 and again in 1898.

Dalnashean was a delightful house to visit as Mother had a small room to herself while the girls had the big room over the drawing room with usually four girls in it, while Willie and I had the room over the dining room with a couple of boys usually in it and the spare room at the back was normally occupied by two girls.
