On the 18th of April 1888, the grandparents celebrated their Golden Wedding at Shandon Hydropathic. A special saloon carriage was engaged for all the Edinburgh and Glasgow relations and we were all driven in coaches from Helensburgh Railway Station on to the Hydropathic, had lunch, were photographed and after afternoon tea returned to Glasgow and Edinburgh. The grandparents received a great number of presents and an "Illuminated Address" from the tenants with sketches of Langhouse, Airds, Beach and the Manor House, Oban at the four corners of the address. All the sons and daughters and grandchildren received gold presents. I still have the gold pencil case with Grannie's and Grandfather's initials engraved on it. (J.A.H. Fraser)
