2: John Henry Newman2 (Thomas1) born 27 Jan 1838 at Diptford, Devonshire; married Victoire Victoria Orchard 03 Apr 1861 at Mudgee, NSW; died 26 May 1922 at Mudgee, NSW.

He left England 16 Feb. 1857 aged 19, aboard "Herald of the Morning " as an assisted immigrant, to tutor Hosking for £20 per year and keep. He arrived in Melbourne 19 Apr 1857. When gold was discovered at Hills End, he became a carrier. He farmed at McDonald's Creek, outside Mudgee, for many years and served as alderman and mayor of the Municipality of Cudgegong.
