Convicted of burglary in 1813 he arrived at Sydney Cove, aboard the "General Hewitt " 7 Dec 1814. He had a ticket of leave and was a landholder by 1822.

    At the time of his marriage, William was working as a bacon manufacturer for Hicks Bros, at Shellharbour. The family moved to the new Hicks Bros factory at Lismore about 1898. About 1910, the family purchased and moved to a dairy farm in Maleny, Queensland. They worked the farm until about 1913 when it was leased and the family moved back to Lismore where William became the bacon factory manager. They remained in Lismore until late 1914 or early 1915 when William retired to Sandgate.

    In 1916, William, Jane and the three youngest children were living in Mapleton, Queensland where William had bought a farm. This farm was sold and William retired again in 1919. The family moved once more to Lismore.
