Welcome to my web site, and thank you for your interest in my tours.

Firstly I would like to give you an idea of my services. I specialize in personalized birdwatching tours, Australia-wide. I operate exclusively on request and take one booking only (maximum 4 people). Therefore we are able to do exactly what you wish and at your own pace. I have no doubt you will have a wonderful time and experience outstanding birding. I'm proud to say that many of my tours are with returning customers, some of whom have been on as many as four tours with me.

Please have a look at the tour suggestions below and let yourself be inspired. Every tour is designed according to the individual wishes of the client. You are welcome to send me a wish list of birds or places you would like to visit, or simply tell me your intentions regarding time. I would be pleased to work out a unique tour for you.

On each tour we stay at accommodation of the best available standard, with a few exceptions such as through the Great Sandy Desert in search of the magnificent Princess Parrot Polytelis alexandrae, where we would camp.

The areas I visit include

  • the Kimberley in the North of Western Australia,
  • the south-west corner of Western Australia, i.e. Perth - Albany,
  • Kakadu National Park and the area around Darwin in the Northern Territory,
  • north-east Queensland with Cairns and the Atherton Tableland,
  • Cape York Peninsula with Iron Range National Park, far north-east Queensland,
  • and the interior of Australia, e.g. Strzelecki Track, Birdsville etc.

I conduct special trips into the remote Outback, in particular through the many deserts, or criss-cross through Australia in search of the endemic grasswren species and subspecies you wish to chase.

The following  Tour Suggestions  may give you an idea of what is possible.

Austral Winter, i.e. May to October / November
Broome and the Kimberley

A fabulous tour through a land of rugged beauty to see the many Kimberley specialities.
I highly recommend a one-way-trip from Broome to Kununurra or vice versa.
A tour which includes the very rewarding Mitchell Plateau would be 9 to 12 days or so.
Broome is among the top five spots worldwide for waders!
Best time to go: May or June to October.

Broome - Kimberley - Katherine - Kakadu N.P. - Darwin

A wonderful and exciting 3 week tour, with savannah, mangrove and rainforest species.
Duration depending on the route and the targeted species.
Best time to go: May or June to October.

Far North Queensland and Cape York

The area with the most diverse avifauna in Australia! I simply love the birdwatching around Cairns, the Atherton Tableland and up to Iron Range National Park on the Cape York Peninsula.
From 1 to 2 weeks.
Time to go: May or June to November.

Strzelecki Track, Birdsville etc.

Outback pure! Superb birdwatching with many exciting and elusive desert species.
We will stay in accommodation with maybe occasional camping in the desert.
From 10 to 20 days.
Time to go: all year round.

Kimberley Cruise

A cruise along the remote Kimberley coast is one of the best things I have done in my life.
Please see for yourselves and click here: Kimberley Cruise
After a short flight from Broome to the Buccaneer Archipelago we will be picked up by Gay and Graham.
Length of the tour: from 5 days. Maximum 4 passengers.
Time to go: May to September.

Austral Summer, i.e. November to March
Perth and the south-west corner

Truly a diversified tour in pursuit of the south-western endemics and specialities.
From 6 to 10 days.
Best time to go: November to March, but possible almost any time of the year.

Cape York, Northern-most Queensland

A rewarding trip to the tip of Cape York Peninsula when both the summer-visitors and the many unique residents are present.
Late November to February. Rain is quite possible.
About one week, departing from Cairns.

Strzelecki Track, Birdsville etc.

See above under 'Austral Winter'.
Time to go: all year round, but it can get very hot during the austral summer.

Unusual Trips for unusual Birds - Austral Winter only
Hide and squeak: criss-cross through Australia for the endemic grasswrens

This adventurous tour will lead us to some very exciting places in the Australian Outback. Out there are not only grasswrens, genus Amytornis, but many other hard-to-find species as well.
Length of the tour and costs depend very much on how often we fly or drive.
Time to go: May to October.

Great Sandy Desert

In search of the rare and elusive Princess Parrot Polytelis alexandrae and other desert species.
A camping tour and definitely not for the fainthearted, with few but all the more exciting species.
Maximum 2 passengers, approximately 10 days.
Time to go: late June to August or early September.

I would be pleased to work out an individual and unique tour for you.
Happy birding,

Jonny
