Rosie, the Art Critic |
Major Mitchell's Cockatoos are also called Leadbeaters Cockatoos (after their scientific name Cacatua leadbeateri) and Pink Cockatoos (after their pale pink plumage). These beautiful Australian cockatoos are not just pretty faces, they have very curious and extremely intelligent natures. They are monogamous and loving mates. Unfortunately they are endangered in their native habitat of the drier areas of inland Australia, but to see them in the wild is a breathtaking sight. Being gregarious in nature they gather in small groups, sometimes with Galahs and Correllas, when they forage for the seeds and fruits they like to eat. Janet hand reared a major Mitchell's Cockatoo, whom she named Rosie. Rosie became quite an Art Critic and was very determined to be involved Janet painted many pictures of this beautiful cockatoo, one of which is available as a Limited Edition Print. |
