Other Artists

Margot first came to my attention in 1996 when I picked up a cd of hers 'Sleeping With The Lion' from 1993 ( through her collaboration with EMI ) -

I'd heard  that this debut album was brilliantly co-produced and co-written with one of my favourite songwriters Steve Kilbey of  The Church and also Eddie Raynor of Split Enz . The connection with Steve Kilbey peaked my interest, so... I had a listen...and wow!

Soon after, I happened to meet Margot in Sydney,  and with encouragement from friends this website was born. At the cd launch for her 2nd album 'Taste'  I saw her perform live with her band for the first time.... a knockout performance! It still perplexes me that she has not received the promotion and attention her talent deserves.

There is now an Official Margot Smith Website  in the USA which is run by Joe Del Tufo who's co-written songs with Margot and also helps with promotion in the USA. This is the site to visit for  audio samples or try the wonderful Karmic Hit site where she has collaborated with John Kilbey.

Margot's quite mysterious, there's not much background information on her....though I did hear that she was in the band 'Toxic Garden Gnomes'  and the 'Willie May Trio' in Brisbane..... she once toured with 'World Party' .....not to mention the legendary story where members of infamous Irish band The Pogues asked her to be their back-up singer and she turned them down, so the story goes!

Margot is based in Sydney, Australia....residing in the Bondi Beach area...despite moving between Brisbane and Melbourne....she has also spent some time overseas in the States. People often mistake her accent for American for that reason.

She has obviously impressed a lot of people with that wonderful sultry mysterious voice of hers that emanates strength and just a hint of  menace, her unique songwriting talent...fans and critics - there isn't really anyone who I can compare her to... she's made loyal fans from all over the world  of everyone who has  met her or listened to her work.. her live performances are fantastic so don't ever miss a chance to see her.
