The maps, DipChief files and the province list were updated on 6 October 1999, when v3.1 replaced the prototypes v2.0 (six player) and v3.0 (seven player). A minor amendment was made to the borders of Prague and Slovakia on 1 January 2000. Some of the country colours and a few other cosmetic map changes were made on 25 May 2002: these have also been reflected in the Dipchief files. The Realpolitik variant files were first added on 29 October 2000 and updated on 25 May 2002.

The provinces are all labelled on the game map using their formal three-letter abbreviations. The full name for each province is included in the Province List.

It should be noted that the canal provinces from the standard dip map are essentially the same: with Kiel now called Hamburg. Leningrad (like St Petersburg in standard diplomacy) has two coasts.
