Brief History of Lapchums Cattery Lapchums Cattery was formally registered with The Royal Agricultural Society Cat Control of New South Wales in 1990. The RASCC was a member of the Co-Ordinating Cat Council of Australia, the largest registering body of Felines in the Southern Hemisphere. The RASCC has since had a name change to The New South Wales Cat Fanciers' Association Inc.which is also a member of C.C.C. of A. 2006, Lapchums moved interstate to sunny Queensland, Tamborine Mountain. The days truly are beautiful one day, perfect the next. Lapchums is now a member of "Council of Federated Cat Clubs of Queensland Inc" also a member of the C.C.C. of A.
What Lapchums is striving for in the Persian and Exotic is heavy bone, breadth of head and big eyes, creating a sweet expression. And although the nose is high our selective breeding for width of face has made the width of the nose wider and the space between the eyes wider thus helping to eliminate weeping eye and nose problems. This has been a major benefit both to the look of the cat and, more importantly, to the welfare of the cat.
Lapchums - Breeding Priorities
There were a number of issues we needed to address also, one of these the quality of coat. We found that our kitties' coats although long and full were fine and a little woolly making it difficult for owners, especially pet owners, to handle. After much searching we located Finchfield Cattery in the United Kingdom who was breeding just what we were looking for; lovely long silky coats and from all American Pedigrees.
The following year, 1997, a lovely red male Finchfield Rustymarque and Finchfield Darkndelicious, a gorgeous black female, also joined us at Lapchums. Finchfield Darkndelicious is from Starwind’s Decibel, a black out of Marhei and Katrina lines - some of the best Blacks in America and of course all have those very long silky coats Lapchums had been searching for. Lapchums Dark Habits, a lovely black Exotic and Lapchums Simply Red. a big red male Exotic, have now incorporated our Finchfield lines into the Exotic Breed. The red male, Finchfield Rustymarque is a combination of American, Swedish and UK breeding. Many thanks must go to Brenda and Mike Barrett of Finchfield Cattery for all their kind support and for being so professional in all their dealings with Lapchums. 2000 Lapchums was pleased to welcome Kyaleens Leanna, Sire, Ronlyn Eric the Red and Dam, Kyaleens Natalie and Dam to Finchfield Darkndelicious. This very pretty blue cream girl is also from Finchfield Cattery and is an original Import from USA. She is from Marhei, Kittycharms and Ronlyn lines. Kyaleens Leanna is now desexed and living as our pet. Her kittens have introduced beautiful boning and a sweet expression to our Exotics and Persians. Lapchums By Design and Lapchums All That Jazz are still producing beautiful kittens in both pure Persian and Exotic in 2006. While Db Gr Ch Lapchums Kiss N Tell is the Image of his Grandmother, Finchfield Dark N Delicious only in the Exotic coat.
The Smoke Persian
Benny is retired from breeding and has left a wonderful legacy at Lapchums. His son Slv Gr Ch Lapchums Burnout is Reserve Longhair Cat of the Year - 2003 for NZCF - owned and loved by Chrissy Wheeler of Elderberry Cattery. We have great expectations for his younger brother, Lapchums Mystic Charm, for our Smoke and Silver Tabby breeding for 2004 in both pure Persian and Exotic breeding. Mysty is off to a great start with his wins at the Silver Persian Specialist Show in July, 2003 as Best Male Kitten and Best Kitten in all 3 rings. 2006 Lapchums Fantasia on Ice, Black Tortoiseshell Smoke and White pure Persian will be shown. She is the Grandaughter of Richmaure Nota Bene and Sophisticats Puff O Smoke, combining some of the Best Smoke lines in both USA and Australia. She has a lovely silky coat and looks like a tortie bi colour in repose. The contrast in her smoke coat is very stiking.
Tabby Persians & Exotics Not being able to resist the loving natures and cheeky look of the Tabbies we once again turned to Europe and UK for some of the worlds best in Tabbies and so Finchfield Illusion, a big brown mackerel tabby male from International and European Ch and Gr Champions joined Lapchums in 1998.
All our tabbies have a very clear well defined classic tabby pattern with little or no agouti ticking. We believe this clarity of coat is due to the long line of exclusive brown tabby Persians in Illusions pedigree and our continuous selective breeding. Lapchums Bearly Cruisin, (Teddy) is the son of Db Gr Ch Paws in Time. He is an Exotic with extraordinary boning, same clear coat pattern as his Sire and Grand Sire. We expect him to do very well this 2006 season on the Show bench. Teddy also has two female Exotic kittens on the bench this season, Lapchums Bit O Soul and Lapchums BaBa Bear Ann. Both have done well at a young age and have Teddy's great boning.
Bi Colour Persians
Both boys have shown a lot of potential with their litters of bi colour kittens. It appears that they are high grade white as all kittens to either solid or bi colours have at least 1/3 white or more. An added bonus. Spiffy's Exotic son, Gr Ch Lapchums Budweiser is siring some beautiful bi-colour Exotics for us this 2003/2004 breeding season. Welcome additions are Skybank Lace Edge, a delightful cream and white female. Sire, Robinridge Over the Edge and Dam Tas Gr Ch Skybank Zaleisha. Also, Ch Sharamka The Diva, with both parents from some of the most consistent Show winning lines in the US. With these two Imports our Bi Colour Persian program is complete so we thought. 2006 welcomes Willangi Special Dream World, a pure Persian black van. Superb nature, good boning and lovely soft full flowing coat.Vist The Boys page.
Bi Colour and Tabby Exotics Lapchums Brooke, a pretty blue cream, is our foundation Exotic girl and is the Dam, Grand Dam and Great Grand Dam of some of our most succesful Exotics to date. Db Gr Ch Lapchums Heeza Dream, a brown classic tabby Exotic owned and loved by Margaret Blinman of Dymarker Cattery was born in January, 2001.
GrCh Lapchums Budweiser Gr Ch Lapchums Budweiser - 2002 a blue and white Exotic is now living with Chrissy Wheeler of Elderberry Cattery in New Zealand where he is siring some beautiful Exotic kittens and starting his New Zealand Show Career.
