The following are the major
milestones in the development of the Lutheran Church in
Launceston, Tasmania. |

MINISTRY MILESTONES |

1949 - Visiting ministers from mainland
Australia began conducting Lutheran services on a semi-regular
basis in Hobart and Launceston, with occasional visits to
the North West coast region. |
 |
1952 - A resident minister was
appointed to live in Hobart and serve Lutherans in the
whole of Tasmania - Hobart, Launeston, North West and
West coasts. Ministers who served Tasmania in this
capacity were:
- 1952 to 1955 - Pastor
Albert Wundersitz
- 1956 to 1962 - Pastor
Lawrence Grieger

1959 - A second Lutheran minister was
appointed to live in Launceston. A parish encompasing
Launceston and the North West coast was established.
Ministers who served congregations in Launceston,
Devonport and Burnie were:
- 1959 to 1965 - Pastor
Robert Thiele
- 1966 to 1970 - Pastor
Robert Kempe
- 1971 to 1975 - Pastor
John Schultz
- 1976 to 1978 - Pastor

1979 - A third Lutheran minister was
appointed to live in Burnie, to serve congregations in
Burnie and Devonport. The Launceston parish continued,
but now serving a smaller area. Ministers who continued
to serve the Launceston area after the formation of the
separate Burnie - Devonport Parish are as follows:
- 1979 to 1982 - Pastor
Rupert Berger
- 1982 to 1987 - Pastor
John Thiel
- 1987 to 1995 - Pastor
David Koehne
- 1995 to 2003 - Pastor

2004 - To maintain the financial
viability of the northern Tasmania Lutheran congregations,
the decision of the Burnie and Devonport Lutheran
congregations re-amalgamate with the Launceston
congregation was accepted. A parish encompasing the
Launceston, Burnie and Devonport congregations became
official on 23 May 2004, with a new minister called to
live in Burnie. Ministers who have
served the North Tasmania Lutheran Parish are as follows:

BRICKS AND MORTAR
MILESTONES |
 |
1957 - A block of land with a garage was
purchased at 225 St John Street, Launceston. The garage
was modified and extended for use as a place of worship. |

1958 - The garage was dedicated as a
church. |
 |
1964 - Land was purchased and a house
built for use as a manse at 15 Braeside St in Launceston. |
 |
1972 - A new church building was
erected on the 225 St John Street site with the original
converted garage becoming a hall and teaching area. |
 |
1979 - The Braeside St house was sold
and the house next to the church purchased for use as a
manse. |
 |
1995 - The manse next to the church was
sold and a newer pastor's house was purchased at 68
Gibson St, Kings Meadows. |

1997 - The King's Meadows house was
sold. |
