| The Effects of your Thoughts | Dedicated to Wholistic Healing | ||||
Your thoughts are powerful! This a simple test that demonstrates how your thinking has an effect on your physical body. Let's start it. You will need a partner to do this With.1) Stand at right angles to your partner. Hold your right arm (or left arm if you are left handed) straight out in front of you at shoulder height. Ask to your partner to put his or her hand on your outstretched wrist.2) Now put your energy into holding your arm steady and resisting while your partner tries to push your arm down. The intent is to find your natural level of resistance - your partner does not need apply force.3) Now close your eyes and, just for a moment, think of a situation, an event or person that creates an unhappy, sad or upset feeling in you. When you get this feeling stick your arm out and resist your partner trying to push your arm down. Then relax.4) Now think of something that makes you feel really good and that brings you joy. When you have that feeling or happiness and joy, stick your arm out and once more resist your partner trying to push your arm down. Then relax.5) You can notice an immediate difference between the different arm tests. You may find that when you have upsetting or sad thoughts and feelings there is no power to resist, as if all the energy has been taken out of your arm. Yet when you focus on happy and joyful thoughts and feelings, the arm becomes very strong and easily resists. Then you can conclude that how quickly the thoughts and feelings are translated into a physical response. So, it is important to be aware of your thoughts and feelings because they play important roles in your health and wellbeing. This exercise was extracted from the book Your Body Speaks Your Mind by Debbie Shapiro. |
