Counselling Training

Training is held twice yearly in Mt Gambier. Day or night courses are available. The course is provided by the training team of Lifeline South East (SA) with input from staff of other agencies, and is available to suitable candidates over 18 years of age. Successful completion of both components of the training is by self-assessment, written and verbal exercises, structured role plays and trainer observation.

A waiting list is maintained of people interested in the training.  Ring the office at any time on 08 8723 2299, to register interest and a personal contact will be made close to the next course.

An initial interview is arranged for information sharing and promotion of the course content.

What's in the course ?

1. Self Awareness - Encourages trainees to know and understand themselves better and to understand Self Awareness as a basic principle underpinning contemporary theories of counselling

2. Counselling Techniques - Provides trainees with basic listening and counselling skills. Modules include Active Listening, Problem Identification, Facilitating change, and counselling in Urgent Crisis.

3. Life Issues - Provides information and exposure to some of the more difficult life issues. Modules include Child Protection, Grief and Loss, Domestic Violence, Mental Health and Addictions.

4. Supervision - Trainees will gain knowledge of Supervision, its crucial role in counselling and how Supervision is achieved at Lifeline South East.

5. ASIST - (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), two day workshop on Suicide First Aid.

Accredited Training
In addition to undertaking the telephone counselling training we can offer Certificate 4 in Telephone Counselling, a nationally recognised qualification under AQF. This qualification is part of the Community Services Training package which may be viewed on www.cshta.com.au
