History relates that Donald Livingstone returned the Stewart Regimental Banner from the Battle of Culloden by wrapping it around himself and swimming Lock Ness and from there to "Salachail" to return it to the Clan's Chief's home.
Below is a pictures of the Stewart Banner at Culloden Battlefield (re-enactment) kindly donated by Kenneth Campbell-McColl.

The photograph is of a replica of the Appin Banner, was taken on the 250th anniversary of the battle. It was taken at the Stewart of Appin/MacLaren position on the Jacobite Army Battleline after the main memorial service. The original, which at that time was normally on display in the United Services Museum at Edinburgh Castle, formed part of a exhibition at a museum in London.
